The Cloud Software Engineer serves as a technical Subject Matter Expert who designs, builds, and maintains cloudnative applications and the underlying platform services and automation frameworks that support them. This role blends software engineering, cloud platform engineering, DevOps automation, and operational troubleshooting to deliver scalable, resilient, and costefficient cloud solutions. The Cloud Engineer collaborates closely with Agile development teams, supports customer mission needs, and ensures alignment with enterprise best practices, governance requirements, and platform standards. This role is essential to ensuring reliability, scalability, and continuous improvement of cloud capabilities across the enterprise. Key Responsibilities: RoleLevel Competency - Serve as a technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) in cloudnative software engineering, cloud platform engineering, DevOps automation, and InfrastructureasCode (IaC).
Software Engineering - Design, develop, and deploy modular cloudbased systems and services.
- Develop software using languages such as Python, Java, C++, or Ruby to support application functionality, automation, and integration.
- Apply strong programming and software engineering practices to ensure accurate interpretation, implementation, testing, and maintainability of code.
Platform Engineering (AWS + IaC) - Build and maintain cloud solutions using AWS services including S3, RDS, EC2, ECS, Lambda, SQS, SNS, and CloudFormation.
- Implement and maintain InfrastructureasCode (IaC) using CloudFormation and related automation frameworks to provision, configure, and manage cloud resources.
DevOps & Automation - Utilize DevOps tools such as GitHub and Jenkins to implement continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
- Containerize and automate workloads using Docker and configurationmanagement tools such as Ansible.
- Apply opensource technologies, software development principles, and system engineering practices to support cloud solution design and implementation.
Cloud Operations - Identify, analyze, and resolve cloud infrastructure vulnerabilities, performance issues, and application deployment failures.
- Regularly review existing systems and recommend improvements for scalability, reliability, security, and cost efficiency.
- Develop and maintain cloud solutions in alignment with customer best practices, architectural guidance, and governance standards.
Team Collaboration & Customer Engagement - Collaborate with Agile Scrum teams to deliver iterative, highquality cloud capabilities.
- Interact with customers to provide cloud support, gather requirements, and recommend technical solutions based on mission needs.
API & Integration - Design, integrate, and maintain web services and RESTful APIs to support application interoperability and data exchange.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications - Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Proven experience designing, developing, and deploying cloudnative applications and services.
- Demonstrated proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, C++, or Ruby.
- Handson experience with AWS services including S3, RDS, EC2, ECS, Lambda, SQS, SNS, and CloudFormation.
- Practical experience implementing InfrastructureasCode (IaC) using CloudFormation or similar automation frameworks.
- Strong understanding of DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, version control, and automated build/deployment workflows.
- Experience with containerization and automation tools such as Docker and Ansible.
- Solid understanding of RESTful API design, integration patterns, and webservice architectures.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot cloud infrastructure, application deployments, and performance issues.
- Experience working within Agile Scrum teams and contributing to iterative delivery cycles.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
Desired Qualifications - Experience supporting COTS/GOTS applications across Windows and Linux environments hosted on AWS.
- Familiarity with Assessment & Authorization (A&A) processes and security/compliance artifact development.
- Exposure to system engineering practices, opensource technologies, and cloud governance frameworks.
- Professional certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect, AWS Developer, AWS SysOps Administrator, or equivalent cloud/DevOps credentials.
